Where Are The Christians?

by Hilmar von Campe

St. Nilus, an early Christian monk who died about 430 A.D., who was abbot of a monastery in Ankara (now Turkey), later became a hermit in the Sinai, and was highly regarded as an advisor who maintained an active correspondence, wrote the following prophesy about this generation:

"After the year 1900, toward the middle of the 20th century, people will become unrecognizable. People's minds will grow cloudy from carnal passions, and dishonor and lawlessness will grow stronger. Then the world will become unrecognizable. People's appearances will change, and it will be impossible to distinguish men from women due to their shamelessness in dress and style of hair. These people will be cruel and will be like wild animals because of the temptations of the Antichrist. There will be no respect for parents and elders, love will disappear, and Christian pastors, bishops and priests will become vain men, failing completely to distinguish the right hand from the left. At that time the morals and traditions of Christians and of the Church will change. People will abandon modesty, and dissipation will reign. Falsehood and greed will attain great proportions, and woe to those who pile up treasures. Lust, adultery, homosexuality, secret deeds and murder will rule society…"

"The churches of God will be deprived of God-fearing pious pastors, and woe to the Christians remaining in the world at that time; they will completely lose their faith because they will lack the opportunity of seeing the light of knowledge from anyone at all. And all of this will result from the fact that the Antichrist wants to be Lord over everything and become the ruler of the whole universe, and he will produce miracles and fantastic signs. He will also give wisdom to a depraved man so that he will discover a way by which one man can carry on a conversation from the end of the earth to the other. At that time men will also fly in the air like birds and descend to the bottom of the sea like fish. And when they have achieved all this, these unhappy people will spend their lives in comfort without knowing, poor souls, that it is the deceit of the Antichrist. He will …lead people to lose faith in the existence of God in three hypostases."

"The All Good God will see the downfall of the human race… the sword of chastisement will suddenly appear and kill the perverter and his servants."

The prophetic description of St. Nilus about what is around us today couldn't be clearer. But the United States was founded by Christians. Freedom became the mission of the evolving nation and to make freedom a reality for every human being on earth the task. The United States, built around this idea, is the only Western nation with such an understanding of self, and that with a unique Constitution made this nation special and different from the rest of the world. The hundred and two pilgrims of the Mayflower came here to lay the foundations "for the propagation and advance of the gospel of the kingdom of Christ," 52 of the 55 signers of the Declaration of Independence were deeply committed Christians. And right after having completed it the Continental Congress voted to purchase and import 20,000 copies of scripture for the people of this nation.

Today 91% of Americans say that they believe in God. Where are they? Christians in general are badly informed about basic moral issues, meaning and implementation of their constitution, political developments and cultures of other nations. God, religion, church and culture are a not thought-through mix, making it easy for godless judges and the UCLU to impose a hoax like the separation of church and state on them. God, however, is not identical with our religious concepts and personal beliefs. There is a big difference between imposing religious dogmas on others and establishing God's moral standards in our society. These standards are the same for all people and societies regardless of religion.

Does 'to believe in God' include obedience and commitment? How many of those 91% include it? I didn't hear of a thunderstorm of protest from the nation's pulpits or of nationwide demonstrations by Christians against the removal of the Ten Commandment Monument in Alabama, which is part of the godless agenda to remove God from public life. It is meant to eliminate in this nation the presence of God, our Creator, who endowed us "with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness - That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men deriving their just Powers from the consent of the Governed…" Does the government establishment of Alabama act with the consent of the governed, mostly people who consider themselves to be Christians, to push God out of public life? It seems to be.

If we would define Christians as regular church-goers of whatever denomination, who believe in God, have their marriage blessed by a pastor or a priest and their children baptized, who donate to good causes and try to live a decent life, then we would have to say that Christians are an overwhelming majority in this country. But why then is it that Christian teachings and moral concepts give way to godlessness and immorality, which pervade and dominates society more and more? Why is it, for instance, that the divorce rate among this kind of Christians is the same as among non-believers?

The Episcopalian Church elected an unrepentant homosexual adulterer, who left his family to have sex outside marriage, as bishop. Violence grows, every day people are being shot not just in Iraq or Afghanistan but here in schools, restaurants, on the street. Judges chase God out of schools and teachers can distribute condoms to teenagers but must not mention God, homosexuals call their chosen vice a lifestyle and begin to destroy the very heart of society by distorting the concept of family as a man/woman couple with children, legislators pass laws making the killing of unborn human lives legal and sending women into combat, environmentalists force society to give animal protection priority over human needs. Lying on all levels of society for personal, corporate, and political advantages becomes normal and at the end nobody trusts anybody to speak the truth. Is that a model society, which makes Christianity attractive to the rest of the world?

America has lost the substance of freedom, which is truth and obedience to God our creator. Lies, lies, and lies whatever you touch and wherever you look - that is the story of today. American Christians and their once Christian nation have lost the sense of being the vanguard of a historical social and political development for all of humanity and left the implementation of a history making global mission to the godless Left, their lies and their materialistic concepts. These people are at it while too many Christians sleep and dream about heaven. They have lost their point of reference for the affairs of the nation to a greater then human power outside of this world and reduced the Christian message to a toothless concept of personal salvation combined with tolerance of evil.

But it is also true, that moral and spiritual substance, on which to build, even though with too small a vision, is still in place and the sense of national mission, even though derailed, remains strong. That is, why the pagan European leaders and people don't understand American society and American purposes, and together with the pagan United Nations try to push the United States into the fold of their unworkable socialist concepts and structures. That must not be allowed. America needs to understand anew that the fulfillment of God's purpose for America must be the driving force for history to unfold and being fulfilled. Those purposes include the defense of Israel and the Holy Land. Outside of those purposes there will be no freedom for America or humanity, neither global nor regional peace, but only slavery and destruction.

How then is such a moral slide, which we experience, possible? I found the answer to that question when I had to face the atrocities of the Nazi government after World War II and ask myself, "how was this possible with millions of Christians who go to church regularly? Where were they?" Logically that led to the next question "where was I?" Then the answer became simple when I had to realize that: 'as I am so is my nation'. If everybody was like me - and unfortunately that was the case - it was no wonder that expert liars and ruthless gangsters could take over the nation and use people like me for their own destructive purposes dressed in patriotic language. Facing myself with the eyes of God I realized that I did not apply absolute moral standards in my life, that I was full with lies, and just out for myself. As a boy I saw the discrimination of the Jews, it did not disturb me and I just watched it. I was a bystander. But you can't be a Christian and a bystander at the same time. It is one or the other. My purposes were personal and no match for the determined bid for power of a minority of godless socialists. I did not participate in any crime but through my moral compromises, which reflected my lack of obedience to God's moral imperatives, I shared a moral responsibility for the crimes, which because of the indifference of millions could be committed. It is like voting an adulterer and liar into public or church office - you become morally co-responsible for the gradual destruction of the teachings of Jesus Christ in your nation, which he or she with your help advances. Your going to church obviously doesn't mean anything because it doesn't produce a godly life. And it is the life you live and the purpose you have, which count, and not what religion you preach.

The Nazis could use me for their purposes. The liar you vote into office does the same. He is interested only in himself, not in you whom he uses. I believe that the majority of the so-called Christians are the same bystanders as I was. It begins with the preachers on the pulpits. Why don't they fight the moral battle? Most likely because they don't want to clash either with the authorities and lose their tax-exempt status or with a comfortable congregation who provide for their living. They have convinced themselves that government policies are not their business and don't understand that getting involved in party politics for them is wrong, but fight for the moral foundations of political reasoning is their duty. And so they appease what is wrong, become part of it, can't recognize sin any more, and stop being the salt of the earth. Did Mary have the right to abort Jesus? Could the apostles have had homosexual relationships? What about those who make these moral perversions legal today even in the churches? Is Allah, who promises ruthless murderers women for sex in paradise, the God of Abraham?

There are, however, many who fight for moral clarity and the spirit of the Constitution. They constitute the hope of this nation to stay free and turn the tide. Naturally it is necessary to fight against individual symptoms of what is fundamentally a global moral sickness. But alone it is not good enough. America needs a total and complete moral rearmament. That means dismantling the myriad of lies, which dominate our society. And the only way for anybody to do that is by first stop lying, make restitution and begin to stand up for truth. Truth as principle is the same for everybody everywhere. It is a God- given universal principle, the pre-condition for freedom, of which America is the champion. It may be necessary to apply military force to defend freedom as the United States did in Iraq. But we must make truth the offensive weapon to make freedom, peace, and prosperity available for all mankind. Godlessness is at the root of all our problems.

Samuel Adams, known as "The Father of the American Revolution", who instigated the Boston Tea Party and signed the Declaration of Independence, wrote: "He is the truest friend to…liberty…who will not suffer a man to be chosen into any office of power…who is not a…virtuous man…If we would…enjoy this gift of Heaven, let us become a virtuous people." That makes me think that the oath of office should contain a phrase like "I swear, that I shall never lie, so help me God!" "We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it," said James Madison." We have staked the future of all mankind upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God." Are Christians going to allow a bunch of ignorant pagans to distort the Constitution, have our children grow up in ignorance, and rob us of our precious heritage? Or will they speak with one voice in the same spirit as the first President of the United States when he proclaimed the first National Day of Thanksgiving and wrote "Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the Providence of Almighty God, to obey His will…I do recommend…Thursday, the twenty-sixth day of November…to be devoted by the people of these United States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be." George Washington continued: "that we may…humbly offer our prayers…to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national…transgressions." May God have mercy on us.
