Letter to the Editor of the Cheyenne Editionby Hilmar von CampeYou have selected a central issue in society of today, an explosive theme, for discussion with your readers. That is highly recommendable. Let me give you my comments . There is no bridge between Pro-Life and Pro-Choice, as there is no mixing between fire and water. It is a defining issue for American society. But the matter has to be moved on to another level to: Which Way, America? In Nazi Germany the Jews were declared by law to be of no value to society. All-mighty (Nazi) man set himself up to be a judge about life and death. This arrogance combined with contempt of (other) human life led to the Holocaust, the elimination of millions of unwanted human beings. In the United States the Supreme Court declared the unborn child legally to be a non-person. The absurdity of that position should be obvious for anybody looking at what is called "partial birth abortion." The consequence of that ruling is the elimination of about 40 million unborn human beings, equally unwanted, until today six times the number of Jews eliminated in German concentration camps. Where does human life begin? That is a medical question in the first place and not very complicated. It should be determined by Congress as basis for all relevant legislation which in turn is subject to compliance with the (unique) Constitution of the United States. Why has that not been done until now? Because of the corruption in the political process. Legislators don't want to stand for fear to lose voters. They are concerned about themselves and not about what is right. Germany was destroyed because its people allowed themselves to be led by a corrupt and evil regime. But when Germany was destroyed in 1945, it was at the hands of a free and moral people who gave us the opportunity at a new beginning, America. If Americans allow themselves to be led by a similar corrupt and immoral leadership, and in the end suffer the same fate as Germany, there will be nobody left to give America, or any nation, a new beginning. Is there a danger of America going down? The answer is yes. This is not a private matter. No society can last which does not respect human life, especially helpless human life.
